About us

Energy industry professionals with complimentary strengths and experience, what we have in common is the ability to really understand the people we work with.

  • Managing DIrector

I was born in Yorkshire and grew up on the family farm where I was regularly ‘volunteered’ to learn the value of hard work, problem solving and the unpredictability of working in an industry so heavily influenced by the weather. This is where my interest in engineering developed.

I graduated with a First Class Degree in Agricultural Engineering at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1989. After a brief spell desiging crop sprayers my energy career started in 1993 at what was then called Farm Electric. I became a Chartered Engineer in 1996 and was awarded a Nuffield Farming Scholarship in 2004.

To cut a long story short, I progressed through the ranks at Farm Electric, helped to form a management buyout in 2000 and I became Technical Director in 2004. The business grew from 8 people to more than 30 and in 2017 we sold what was then called FEC Energy. With the new owners firmly settled in, I left in early 2020. Having had the summer of 2020 off it was time to get back into helping businesses take control of their energy consumption and cost.

    Some key achievements:

    • Submitting the second ever Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) application

    • Building a CHP management service supporting 100MWe of plant

    • Feasibility studies for successful projects from lighting upgrades to large-scale greenhouse developments

    • Bidding for, winning and delivering near-market R&D projects for organisations such as AHDB

  • Formerly Head of Service Delivery at NFU Energy where my work was largely focussed on managing the account management service, looking after energy trading and compliance for generators from AD plants to CHP operators and large-scale energy consumers.

I personally defined our approach to flexible energy trading, built reporting and billing tools and looked after many of NFU Energy’s biggest customers.

Before energy I worked as a project manager and business analyst, first in banking then IT.

At Now Then Energy I use my 20+ years of experience to ensure that we’re working working robustly and pragmatically, making the most of opportunities for our clients.
