Last chance to score a TRIAD?

This week is expected to be pretty cold, some are saying it will be the Beast from the East 2.0. But reasonable expected wind output has left electricity at c. £90/MWh for teatime today on the N2X day-ahead auction; so a long way below the highs of mid-January.

But it could yet be an interesting week for electricity prices. We will almost certainly get at least one TRIAD warning and possibly more but with the 10 day rule only one can stay on the books for winter 20-21.

Whilst the TRIAD season officially ends on 28 February, with daylength slowly increasing it is rare for there to be a TRIAD beyond this week. In fact, the latest was on 15 February 2016 until the original Beast from the East put the 26 February 2018 on the record books.

So keep a close eye on the electricity markets, look out for TRIAD alerts and maybe even a Capacity Market Notice if one of the interconnectors trips.
